BMW Case - Justice Incomplete

10 years of long wait for the six families. Countless number of people who were waiting for justice to be delivered. What is the justice given? Five years jail term for Sanjeev Nanda, the prime accused in the infamous BMW Hit and Run case in which he killed six people leaving just one lucky one.

After all the drama that had taken place in these 10 years. Destruction of evidence, buying the General Motors finance head Rajiv Gupta, trying to buy the key witness of the case, banning of senior advocates, the prime accused is punished with is just 5 years of jail term.

Sanjeev Nanda was guilty under section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), for which the maximum punishment is 10 years. CNN-IBN spoke to one of the victim's family members'. They were sure couple of days ago that the rich will be let off. This is the state of the affairs of the judiciary. When this culprit is not awarded a jail term of the maximum sentence, who else will be given that term? To add to the minimal jail term awarded, the time spent in the jail will be deducted from the five years term.

Is this the reason that the law has sentences stating maximum imprisonment when it is never even awarded for the most gruesome crimes? Has the prime accused escape the maximum punishment just because he is rich? If yes, then it is high time that the judicial system stops discriminating on the economical classes.

Yet another stain on the Indian Judicial system...

To all the media groups, thank you very much for covering this issue so accurately that justice was delivered. Better late than never.
